In Florida, Heritage’s Medicare Advantage plan uses the American Pioneer brand and license.  American Pioneer Life Insurance Company and Heritage Health Systems, Inc. are operating units of Universal American Financial Corporation (UAFC), a publicly traded corporation.  American Pioneer is licensed as an insurance company in Florida, where it sells a variety of insurance and financial products to the senior market.  The Medicare Advantage product operates under American Pioneer’s Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) certification.

Brevard Professional Network

Brevard Professional Network and American Pioneer have teamed up to offer Medicare Advantage plans to residents of Brevard County beginning January 1, 2006.  Enrollment will begin in the fall of 2005.  BPN is a 150 member physician IPA, representing almost all medical specialties throughout the county.  Approximately half of the BPN members are primary care doctors.    The principal goal of BPN is to provide the highest quality medical care to patients, while assuming the responsibility for cost effectiveness and appropriate care.  BPN was formed in 1995.

HealthExcel 

HealthExcel is a Management Services Organization (MSO), created in 1998 and owned by physicians.  It's primary purpose is to develop and manage networks of primary care physicians in the managed care market.  HealthExcel's philosophy is to put medical cost management decisions in the hands of physicians.
 
HealthExcel has organized roughly 200 primary care physicians and 1,500 specialists to partner with American Pioneer in offering Medicare Advantage plans, including Part D, to beneficaries in Miami/Dade and Broward Counties effective January 1, 2006. 

Enrollment in both will begin in the fall of 2005, effective January 1, 2006.
